Fun with art!

I laugh to keep from weeping for humanity.

I'm reading The Da Vinci Code and am researching paintings and such that the book mentions so I can have a clear picture of them in my head. I came up with this little gem:

At a comment site for Da Vinci's 'The Last Supper'

*shakes head*

I also researched the paintings when I was reading the book but didn't happen onto anything as cool (in a matter of speaking... in the end, more sad)

So, what do you think of the book so far?

It's interesting, and a fast read, but at the same time, irritating. I'm pretty sure that by the time I finally find out what Sophie saw in her grandfather's basement, I'll be all "That was all? That was the big disgusting thing? That's it?" Because there is so much buildup to it with the author pushing and pushing how disgusted she was by what she saw that it's just going to backfire for me, and it's not going to be even remotely disgusting to me.

But then, it takes a lot to disgust me.

Other than that, I'm enjoying the ride. :)

Well, can't erally argue with you here. I did go "what??? that's the big disgusting thing???" indeed. It was highly disappointing - well it would have been if I had been expecting anything sensational, but I know better.

That said... there is a "shocker" to what she saw... but I don't want to spoil anything for you. You won't learn about it until much later though - and not when he first unweils what she saw.

The main interest of the book where i'm concerned it's not really the book (which really isn't all that well written) but the questions it raises. The "what if" that can't help but coming to mind.

My favourite bits so far are the codes and cryptology stuff. And the historical bits.

The story itself reads like a Harrison Ford movie. Langdon doesn't really 'come alive' for me, but I don't mind it because it's more about the plot and the mysteries than about the characters.

Yes, Dan Brown has a lot of trouble making characters "come alive" or even have any sort of substance to them. Sadly, I think the Da Vinci Code might be the less flawed of all in that respect.

But the plot is quite catching, and even though he borrowed most of the "historical" bits from other sources they're still interesting.

*snickers* Last night, I was reading at something like 1am. And Sophie was going on about the disgustingness again and first thing that came out of my mouth was "What? Are they worshipping Britney Spears? That'd gross me out too."
