Torchwood 1.12 "Captain Jack Harkness"

Okay, I know this show is cheese, and crack, and what my parents would call 'bubble gum', and normally I'm not a nitpicky person, but every so often just something sticks out and pokes at the nitpicky nerve.

So there's all this angst over the real Captain Jack getting killed in the training thingie tomorrow and OMG LAST NITE ON URF! Yet nobody acknowledges the fact that Captain Jack won't make it to his training thingie because unless somebody behind the scenes Retconned everyone at that dance hall, Captain Jack got arrested two minutes later and will be too busy being court martialed to die. Not to mention the severe beatings. Is it too much to ask?

It's not like they completely changed history or anything. ;) Or was this an alternate 1941 where gay is okay?

Anyway, just had to have my one moment of Torchwood nitpickery. Carry on.

Everyone assumes...
That just because they went back, it has to change the future. Not everyone believes the "Back to the Future" theory of time travel. Robert Heinlein posed that no matter what you go back into history to do, the future will happen the way it should, regardless of how many butterflies you massacre. Now, how do we know that he was court martialed and shot the next day, as you day? Remember, nowadays, the RAF is the only armed force in the world that openly accepts and supports gay members. They could have said, "Well, it's wartime, he made a mistake, he's a good lad, an American volunteer, mark it down to fear and nerves."

Re: Everyone assumes...
I saw how they were looking at them, but it could be. Another possibility is that they were all so shocked by the whole people disappearing into a BIG SHINEE LIGHT thing to worry about what happened right before it.

Re: Everyone assumes...
I choose to believe in the good bits, and ignore reality. It's not what I watch television for.

I choose to think of it as an AU where they were okay with it, mostly. *hands* Watch the whole show. There's never any anti-gay anything.

That's a refreshing change. :)

I finished series 1, and am watching Doctor Who's 'Utopia' before I launch into series 2.

I tend to ignore it, because it's Whoverse...but yeah. It doesn't really make much sense.

There have been tons of posts on the various Torchwood coms containing research and stuff about the whole situation. And I know some people after it first aired assumed real!Captain Jack getting killed by his own men because of the kiss.

I suppose it does open the door to speculation and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Hee.
