Writer's Block: Church and State

Today in 1893 U.S. President Benjamin Harrison declared full amnesty for Mormon polygamists. Is it the government's place to define which marriages are valid and which are not?
Absolutely. Marriage is a legal contract, which grants a married couple certain rights under the law. Ergo, marriage is solely of the realm of the State. Now, the State should not be allowed to regulate love, obviously. And it should never let the religion of some infringe on the legal rights of all.

As to these Mormon polygamists, hey, if that's what they want to do and they're not harming anyone, kudos to President Harrison. Who gives a flying fuck anyway?
