Since a number of US newspapers have refused to republish the latest Doonesbury cartoon strip which highlights the way Republicans are attempting to undermine a woman's right to choose, I feel it's important to make sure the message still gets across.

The shaming room awaits.

This is the one that really got me the other day:

It never ceases to amaze me how men think they should be able to legislate us as walking baby machines.

It hurts my brain. I just don't understand how any of this is happening.

It terrifies me, when I was in high school we read "The Handmaid's Tale" which is about a right-wing Christian group taking over the US after an Islamic terror attack and freezing all of the assets of women and minorities and basically the woman either become assigned to a rich man to have his babies, or if they can't have babies then they're exiled into poison work camps. It follows a girl called Offred ("Of Fred") as Fred is sterile and she's about to get exiled for not having his baby because only women can be sterile in this society...

Anyway, it's terrifying, and as the news continues I keep telling Adam someday birth control's going to be illegal and they're going to kill me for using it and he says we'll escape to a country where it is legal, but really, if the US and Canada make it illegal, the rest of the world is likely not going to be any better. :( Of course he thinks i"m overreacting, but it's scary the crap that's coming out of right wing mouths in both of our countries.

I've heard of this book but never been able to read it. I don't know if they'll have it at the local library either, but I suppose I can check.

Then again, I don't know if it will scare me so much more than I already am. I wouldn't want to imagine what they'd do to somebody like me in that scenario.
