Writer's Block: The X-Files Birthday
Today in 1993, The X-Files first premiered. What's your favorite episode? Have you ever experienced paranormal activity yourself?
I loved the one with Invisigoth and that virus thingie. The one where the aliens were impregnating zoo animals and stealing the embryos. The one with the conjoined circus twin that popped out of the guy's side and killed people. I could go on and on.
The X-Files is one of maybe three television shows that have shaped the way I am and see the world. I was young enough that I was still rather impressionable, and while I've grown cynical in my old age, and no longer fervently defend the Roswell crash and related miscellanea, I still don't trust the government to tell us the truth should they have it, and I do still think something happened in New Mexico.
As to anything paranormal? The only thing I can really think of was that night back in my bedroom in Puerto Rico. It was the middle of the night, I'd been asleep, and I woke up to realise the air conditioner was off, and so were all the lights. Power failures aren't a big deal down there, but used to sleeping with the AC on, the lack of it woke me up. I opened a window as soon as the room got too warm, and I could see a glow coming from outside. Pretty pale white. I peered out and saw that the whole hill behind the house, which had a few neighbourhoods on it even back then, was pitch black as well. The sky, though, was pure white.
From the clouds right above the hill I saw this pretty big round light, whiter and brighter than the sky itself. It was coming down on a vertical descent, and there was a line of tiny coloured lights spinning around the sphere. It was moving pretty slowly, at least in perspective. It came down over the trees, turned to the right at a 90 degree angle and zoomed into the treeline. I freaked the fuck out. LOL. I still can't explain what it was. It must've been around 13-15 years ago.
Fuck, I'm old.
And now for something completely different:
