I'm in a babbly mood. Bear with me.

Anyone here ever read Aldous Huxley's Brave New World? I wish a lot of the things in that book were implemented in real life. Like the upbringing. All the kids are raised communally, and the concept of parents is taboo. Babies are decanted instead of born.

But the best part is just HOW they're raised. Aside from all that touchy social and genetic engineering and caste system stuff, the girls are basically brainwashed into being obsessive about birth control. They learn from an early age to not get pregnant under any circumstances. To have all the sex they want, but not to get pregnant. They can't not take the pill, it's so ingrained in their subconscious.

Damn, we need to institute this somehow. Too bad it will never happen in the New United States of Jesus.

dude i loved that book.

but yeah, i totally didn't dig the caste system thing. where they'd make the babies hate sunshine and flowers and stuff because it was associated with pain.
that was fuckin'...too creepy..

Yeah, but it's interesting to think about, on a philosophical level.

and you are right about the BC thing.
that would be wonderful.

You have no idea how much teen pregnancy irritates me. And people who have more children than they can afford/pay attention to. And people who waste thousands of dollars on fertilty treatments. And people breeding in general. We need to cut down to about 3-4 billion humans, at most. I'd say 2 billion would be more desirable than 6.

you sound just like one of my best friends.

except she decided to cut down the population by cutting off electricity and making people fend for themselves and eventually just be a nation of farmers. (if that's possible)
then the ones too reliant on technology die off naturally and it'll be just like survival of the fittest, except only sort of.

and then there was the option of having people file into a mr. burn's style office under a trap door explaining why they should live in 10-15 seconds, and if they dont meet her fancy..down the drop they go.

The first option might not be too far in coming, with the way we're eating up the natural resources. I have no doubt that what we do to Nature will come and smack us all in the ass one day, what worries me is how many other species we will drive to extinction before then.

"Orgy Porgy, Ford and fun..."

I absolutely agreed with it. I'm not sure I disagree with the stratification of the society, however. I mean, how is it immoral if you give a person that which makes him/her happiest? And you do need a work force. Granted, with the current state of things, you can sort of see it happening. Substitue the soma for alcohol and [most] prime-time TV. Substitute genetic engineering for brainwashing, at an early level, to be content with the mental pablum that passes for intelligent discourse. Switch the obsession with BC for the obsession to breed more such mealy-mouthed smarmy idiots.

We're there already, love.

I'm not sure I disagree either, but I didn't want to get into that sort of argument with someone calling me a fascist or whatever. *lol*
